Community Safety Award

County Durham and Darlington Local Reslience Forum Community Safety Award is based on the Duke of Cornwall Community Safety Award and has been adapted to the local communities of County Durham and Darlington. 

The award is designed for young people aged 5 to 18. Through a range of activities, participants learn how to stay safe and support their families and communities during emergencies such as severe weather, pandemics, prolonged power outage and other disruptive events. The award promotes an understanding of resilience, encourages personal responsibility and builds the confidence needed to respond effectively to situations that are very different from everyday life. By helping young people become more resilient and self-reliant, the programme also helps communities reduce unnecessary pressure on emergency services during times of crisis.

How it works

The Community Safety Award is designed as a flexible, self-led programme. Participants can complete the workbooks at home with support from parents or carers or as part of organised sessions with schools, Scout groups, youth organisations or other community groups. Booklets containing supporting notes are also available for adults assisting the young people in this process, providing resources and guidance to help young people successfully complete the award. Once the workbooks have been completed, participants are encouraged to contact CDDLRF for the award certificates to be issued.
