What is a Lithium-ion battery?
A lithium-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in devices like phones, laptops, e-bikes and vapes. It stores energy using lithium ions and is popular because it's lightweight, long-lasting, and charges quickly.
Stay safe and follow these safety tips:
- Only buy genuine batteries from reputable suppliers and that batteries have a CE or UKCA mark.
- Always use the correct charger from the manufacturer.
- Never leave batteries charging unattended or overnight.
- Do not charge items in your main escape route from your home. Eg. Hall, stairs or landings this includes mobility scooters.
- Charge on a hard, flat surface in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep away from heat and flammable items.
- Unplug once fully charged.
- Install smoke alarms where devices are stored or charged.
- Don’t use damaged batteries or modify devices.
- If you use a mobility scooter, have it serviced regularly.
