County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service has a legal duty to encourage fire safety in County Durham and Darlington and to enforce the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO), in order to reduce the risk of fire causing death or serious injury to persons and to protect property.
Our protection team compromises of a team of Business Fire Safety Officers which are motivated, highly qualified and trained. The team approach ensures the highest levels of professionalism in order to meet the needs of the community. Our role, along with supporting the application of the FSO is to provide practical fire safety advice and guidance to help you meet legal obligations.
The FSO requires the responsible person(s) of any non-domestic premises to ensure they are compliant with the law in order to protect all relevant persons from the risks of fire. To support this we conduct fire safety audits to ascertain how the premises are being managed and if the FSO is being complied with. Audits are conducted as part of a risk-based interventions program and are always carried out by competent fire service staff.
