Safer Smoking

Did you know? Around 5 accidental house fires a day are started by smoking.

Smoking related fires can start easily, so stay safe with these quick tips:

  • Smoke outside when possible.
  • Never smoke or allow anyone else to smoke in the same room as oxygen equipment or an air flow mattress.
  • Never smoke when drowsy, including after taking medication, other drugs or consuming alcohol.
  • Keep lighters/matches away from children and young people.
  • Use sturdy ashtrays and fully stub out cigarettes.
  • Add water to ashtrays and empty them safely.
  • Never smoke where you sleep.
  • Choose fire-safe cigarettes if available.

Quitting is the safest option.

Vaping

Stay safe whilst vaping or using an e-cigarette by following these top tips:

  • Buy from trusted sellers.
  • Keep away from medical oxygen - this is just as dangerous as smoking.
  • Don't use fake, damaged, or modified devices.
  • Vape liquids can be toxic - handle with care.
  • Always dispose of vapes at a vape recycling point - never in your household bin. Recycling points can be found in shops that sell vapes.
  • Use the correct charger and never leave it charging overnight.
