Young People and Fire?

Most children show a natural interest about fire, but there are signs you can look out for that may highlight firesetting behaviour:

Recognising the signs

  • Burnt matches or burnt pieces of paper.
  • Scorch marks on the carpets or soft furnishings.

How you can help your child

  • Talk calmly with your child about fire risks and consequences.
  • Explain that matches and lighters are for adults only.
  • Lock matches or lighters away or out of reach

How we can help

Our Fire Safety Interventions support children and young people (up to age 18) to change risky behaviour. Support is age-appropriate and tailored to individual needs, including very young children.
