Outbuilding on fire at Tanfield

Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the day to bring a large fire at an out building under control close to Tanfield Manor in Stanley.

Working alongside a number of partners and our colleagues at Cleveland Fire Brigade, crews were able to minimise the impact of the fire on the local community.

Initial reports of a large fire came into County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) control at 5:28am on (Sunday, December 4th).

Five fire crews from High Handenhold, Consett, Durham and Spennymoor responded along with the Bulk Water Carrier, Welfare Unit and the Incident Command Unit from Cleveland Fire Brigade.

CDDFRS Group Manager Rob Cherrie, commented: “We would like to thank local residents for patience as we dealt with this incident into the late hours of the evening, and extend thanks to our partners who assisted us.

“Our crews worked extremely hard under difficult conditions to prevent the fire spreading to the manor house itself as well as a number of other out buildings.”

Our crews left the scene at 21:18pm, and an investigation will now be carried out into the cause.
