Everyone within County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service is deeply saddened by the news today of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty has provided over seventy years of unwavering and selfless service to our country and to the Commonwealth. That reign has been nothing short of remarkable and has brought a sense of stability to her servants despite the many changes and challenges that we have faced over such a significant period of time. The Queen dedicated her entire life to serving her country and she has done so with dignity, respect and the admiration of millions of people around the world. She will be sadly missed, and we would like to pay tribute to everything that she has undertaken and achieved throughout her life.

CDDFRS have, along with other public organisations, entered a period of mourning and this will continue until after the funeral. During this time, we will be scaling back some of our non-emergency response activity, public information, external broadcasting and cancelling some planned activity, as a mark of respect. All flags will be flown at half-mast across our estate until after Her Majesty’s funeral.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family at this immensely sad time.
