Councillor Brian Jones retires following 15 years’ service on County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority.

Today County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service presented Councillor Brian Jones with a plaque to commemorate his years working as a member of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority (CDDFRA).

The CDDFRA is responsible for scrutinising the Service overall as well as setting its strategic direction, policies and priorities. Membership comprises of 21 elected councillors from Durham County Council and 4 from Darlington Borough Council.

Cllr Jones, an elected member from Darlington Borough Council, joined CDDFRA in May 2008. He has since served the communities of County Durham and Darlington by ensuring CDDFRS is run to the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness.

Cllr John Shuttleworth, Chair of CDDFRA, said, “Brian has been a long-standing councillor within Darlington, he has also been a member of the Combined Fire Authority since May 2008, providing robust and constructive governance and oversight of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. Brian has over the years shown commitment and dedication and I speak on behalf of all the Combined Fire Authority members when I say he will be sadly missed.”

Steve Helps, Chief Fire Officer for CDDFRS said “For over 15 years Cllr Jones has applied his experience and commitment assisting County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service to become one of the best Fire and Rescue Services in the Country. He has supported a range of projects and committees over the years and on behalf of everyone within the Service, I would like to thank Brian for his service and wish him well in his retirement.”
