Vehicle and Equipment Technician Connor Storey.
From replacing a tyre at the roadside to installing a new water pump on one of our fire engines, Connor Storey is at the heart of what keeps our service ready to respond in an emergency.
Connor, 32, grew up in Sunderland and previously worked as a Motor Vehicle Master Technician for the North East Ambulance Service, before joining the Service earlier this year.
When you think of the fire service, rarely do people consider our Workshops Team, who work flat out to ensure our fleet of vehicles are ready to respond 24 hours a day.
“I am extremely proud to work for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service,” Connor said.
“My role is extremely varied. I carry out maintenance, service, repairs, diagnostics and modifications to our fleet of vehicles and equipment.
“My duties also include roadside assistance, breakdowns and on call defects and repairs.”
The best part of his job?
“The opportunity and challenge that comes with working on a diverse range of vehicles and equipment," he said.
"It is really good fun and very rewarding.”
Although Connor has only been with the Service since April this year, he has already passed his HGV C licence, which he describes as one of his proudest achievements.
“I feel I am part of a great team of technicians who help to serve our people and communities by keeping our vehicles and equipment on the road, ready for whenever they are needed.
“The Service is a fantastic place to work where no two days are the same.”
It’s no surprise that in his spare time, Connor enjoys tinkering with anything mechanical!
Some of his personal favourites include Land Rovers, trucks and tractors.
When not messing around with motors for work and for pleasure, Connor can be found spending time with his Fiancé, Georgia, and his two children.
