A mischievous puppy needed a helping hand from Firefighters after her head became stuck in a metal bin lid.

A crew from Consett came to the rescue of Jack Russell Amari after the six-month-old pup poked her head through the heavy lid and ended up wearing it like a collar.

Worried owner Lesley Clark took Amari to Westway Vets in Consett, however, vets were unable to remove it from her neck and called on CDDFRS for help.

Firefighters arrived and cut through the lid while the brave puppy was sedated and were able to safely release her.

Fortunately, Amari was not hurt during the incident.

Veterinary nurse Hannah Cameron said: “It was a great team effort between us and the fire and rescue service.

“We were able to keep Amari still and calm under sedation while they worked on freeing her with the metal cutters.”

Owner Lesley added: “The teams from Westway Vets and the fire and rescue were absolutely fantastic.

"I certainly don’t have any more bin lids in the garden and I just want other owners to be aware of what can happen.”
