We’re in the running to win Emergency Service of the Year at the annual Excellence in Fire and Emergency Awards.

At CDDFRS our goal is ‘Being the Best’ and we’ve been shortlisted for many reasons, including:

We’re leading the way with our apprenticeships – we have been ranked the 26th best apprenticeship employer in the country.

The number of accidental dwelling fires and associated casualties in our area continues to reduce and our proactive prevention work means we carry out over 18,000 Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSVs) per year, that’s almost twice as many HFSVs per 1,000 population compared to the England average.

We deliver almost 2000 Business Fire Safety Audits per year, which is almost four times as many Audits per 100 known premises compared to the England average.

Meanwhile, we’ve also been shortlisted in the Youth Champion of the Year Category - thanks to the hard work of our Young People and Arson Reduction Team – and in the Collaboration of the Year category, for our work with Durham Constabulary Forensic Investigation team.

We’ll find out on December 1st if we’ve been successful – wish us luck!
