Independent Member of The Audit and Finance Committee
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority is looking to appoint an independent member to strengthen its Audit and Finance Committee.
The role of the Audit and Finance Committee is to give independent oversight and assurance on the Fire and Rescue Authority’s arrangements for risk management, internal control, and financial governance including the approval of the statutory accounts. The Audit and Finance Committee also considers and makes recommendations to the Fire and Rescue Authority on the proposed annual budget and medium-term financial plan.
The Audit and Finance Committee currently comprises of six elected members (councillors) and the new role of independent member will be in addition to this. The Committee is scheduled to meet 4 times a year to deal with set items of business.
To be considered for this role you should ideally have a financial, accountancy, risk management or audit background preferably from within a large or public sector organisation. The appointed individual will be expected to observe the principles of behaviour in public life (the ‘Nolan principles’) which embrace selflessness, integrity objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.
An annual allowance of £1,158 will be paid together with reimbursement of travelling and subsistence expenses in respect of attendance at meetings.
Applicants must be able to attend meetings at Fire Service Headquarters, Durham, and have not been elected members or employees of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service in the last five years. Applicants must remain independent from the organisation and any political party.
