The new Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) sets out our long-term vision for the future of County Durham. It describes what we want the county to be like by 2023 and the types of things we will do to get there. The new 2008-2023 SCS was endorsed by full council on the 27th February. A process of review, refinement and consultation will begin after the 31st March 2009 to build on the vision for the new council.
The SCS is mainly focused on you, the residents of the county, but also looks at how we can improve the county for people who come here to work, study, visit or invest.
County Durham's communities, are at the heart of this fifteen-year strategy. This strategy sets out our goals until 2023, so affects you, your children and, for some, your grandchildren.
We've looked at lots of evidence and information, including the things local people have previously said they would like to see change. We've also looked at areas where we can improve our performance. This has helped us to decide what issues we most want to tackle in County Durham.
