Road Traffic Collision Technician

Firefighters attend an increasing number of road traffic collisions and, as a result, skills, knowledge and techniques have improved to ensure that they are appropriately equipped.

All appliances in County Durham and Darlington are equipped to deal with road collisions and it is important that the firefighters receive quality training to ensure they can deal with the situations that they might have to face.

The road traffic collision training course covers; team approach, scene safety, vehicle stabilisation, casualty stabilisation, correct use of hydraulic cutting equipment, extrication techniques, safe and correct use of spine boards.

Over the last two years we have embarked on training our firefighters to deal with trauma victims at incidents to improve the quality of care the patients receive.
