General Fire Safety Guidance Railway Safety Railway Code
Trains are safe to ride in but railways can be dangerous places.
Never
- Ignore trespass warning signs.
- Ignore electricity.
- Put anything on a railway line no mater how small.
- Throw anything at a train.
- Dangle anything from a bridge in front of a train, remember the line could be electrified.
- Damage fencing, it is there to protect you.
- Damage or deface signs or property.
- Dump rubbish by a railway line.
- Ignore the rules for using level crossings.
- Lean out of train windows.
Always
- Use a level crossing or road or footbridge, never take shortcuts.
- Keep away from station platform edges.
- Give yourself plenty of time to catch your train safely.
- Wait for the train to stop before getting on or off.
- Contact a member of staff if you need assistance or feel insecure.
- Report all incidents of crime to the British Transport Police.
Remember
A train weighs 400 tonnes and it travels up to 125mph. It is usually electrified by a overhead line or third rail up to 25000 volts and can take 1 ½ miles to stop!
