History and Background
Sedgefield is a small market town which lies close to the border of Cleveland. The surrounding villages of Fishburn, the Trimdons and Bishop Middleham have little employment since the closure of the collieries and coke works so, most people travel to work in either Durham or Teesside. Sedgefield has a small industrial estate which has a number of light engineering works and other factory units. The main A1M, A177 and the A689 passes through the station area.

Sedgefield Fire Station was built in 1966 and, as well as responding to calls in its own area, it is strategically placed to provide back-up to the neighbouring stations at Newton Aycliffe, Darlington, Spennymoor and Teesside International Airport.
