Mobile Telephone Communications

We use 140 mobile telephones. Most are hand held standard telephones, but all of our appliances are fitted with fixed mobiles to enable telephone communication at incidents.

Our main fire appliances and Special Incident Vehicles are fitted with fax machines which connect to the mobile telephone network. This enables the Control Room to send important information to the appliance, such as how to deal with hazardous substances spilled from a road tanker accident, in a hard copy format as opposed to dictating the information over a telephone or radio.
