Service Headquarters History


1957
Occupied in July 1957 and officially opened in 30 October. The HQ comprised of an administration block and control room.

Over a six year period the following buildings were erected on the site; Fire station, workshops, stores, training tower and training school (1963).

1994
A new £2.5m Command and Control Centre was opened on the headquarters site. The Command and Control Centre continues to handle all emergency fire calls for County Durham and Darlington from this site. There are approximately 18,000 calls per year to the centre.
